H.E. Safeya Hashim AlSafi serves as the Assistant Undersecretary for the Control & Commercial Governance Sector at the Ministry of Economy & Tourism. She oversees three key departments within the Sector: the Consumer Protection and Commercial Control Department, the Competition Department, and the Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Department. She is the Chair of the UAE Company Registrars Sub-Committee and a member of several national bodies, including the National Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Illegal Organizations Committee (NAMLCFTC), the National Food Safety Committee, and the Medicine Policy Committee. She also serves as a Board Member of the Emirates International Accreditation Centre. With over a decade of experience in the banking sector and more than five years in government service, she has held multiple leadership positions. Throughout her career, she has played a pivotal role in establishing several strategic departments and frameworks, most notably the Anti-Money Laundering Department at the Ministry of Economy & Tourism, which supervises Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs) across the UAE. She also developed the national risk-based framework for beneficial ownership transparency across all company licensing authorities in the UAE, including both mainland jurisdictions and commercial free zones. Earlier in her career, she established the Private Banking Department at Emirates Islamic Bank. She holds a Master’s degree in Islamic Economics and Wealth Management from Zayed University, as well as a professional diploma in Innovation and Government Accelerators in Future Design from Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University. In addition, she earned the International Certificate in Wealth and Investment from CISI in 2017 and is a member of the International Compliance Association (ICA). Safeya has maintained an active record of volunteer service since 2006. She has been a Board Member of the Emirates Down Syndrome Association since 2018 and has served as its Treasurer since 2021.Education:
