Katerina has advised on EU and Competition Law for over 2 decades. She joined Amex in 2006 to create the EMEA Antitrust and Payments Regulation function, which she continues to lead today. In 2016 she established a Centre of Excellence for Global Payment Systems Regulation; in 2019 she was promoted to take on a Global Legal Policy and Strategy role. Katerina leads a diverse and multidisciplinary team of 14 lawyers across the UK, Spain, Germany, Singapore and Brazil with expertise in the intersecting areas of competition law, financial services and payments regulation. As well as leading the team that advises on EU Law and EMEA antitrust matters (e.g. counselling, M&A, regulatory enquiries), Katerina also oversees payments regulatory litigation and references to the CJEU. Following successive expansions in her role at American Express, effective January 2019, Katerina advises globally on external policy trends, regulatory engagement and related corporate strategy. Katerina is a passionate advocate for diversity and co-leads the Access & Equity Pillar of the American Express GCO Inclusion and Diversity Program. OTHER ACTIVITIES: • Committee Member of the Competition Law section of Business at OECD. • Member of the Competition Law International Editorial Board. • Expert advisor to the European Commission on Payments Regulation in the Payment Systems Market Experts Group.
