Prof Dr Hielke Hijmans is President of the Litigation Chamber and Member Executive Board of the Belgian Data Protection Authority. The Litigation Chamber, composed of its President and 6 external members is an autonomous body of the DPA, responsible for litigation and sanctioning. It takes decisions in enforcement cases, based on complaints, own initiative investigations of the DPA and on transborder cases within the EEA where the Belgian DPA acts as lead supervisory authority. The cases are dealt with in a quasi-judicial procedure, with written and oral submissions of parties involved.
